After
several decades of driving and hiking around Arizona I came to the
realization that this is one of the most diverse and beautiful regions on
the face of the earth.
Visitors to the desert find an incredible array of colors, textures, shapes,
and life forms that are found in few other places on the planet. They find
bold rocks with sharp edges, and plants with sharp points. But there
are other perspectives on this unique landscape that show an amazing and
awesome beauty unlike any place they have ever seen. Most are surprised to
find that there are wide stretches of deep forest and meadows going for more
than 100 miles in some directions.
Others
are surprised to find colorful hummingbirds flitting from desert flowers to
cactus blooms and showing a delicate side of what, at first glance, appears
to be a harsh, unfriendly environment. Then, much to their surprise, a
mama quail and her 8 little chicks go skittering under the sage and prickly
pear to safety and a meal.
During
travels and exploration around the mountains, deserts, and many historical
highlights of Arizona I have taken many thousands of photos. Some of
them are capturing a moment in time that revealed a light or colors that
were never to be repeated exactly. Others were taken from the air, or
the top of some mountain that took hours to place one boot in front of the
other over and over to finally reach the summit. I hope you enjoy the
drama and beauty that is Arizona! |
